Lifting your Jeep Wrangler JL is one of the best upgrades you can make — it opens up bigger tires, improves ground clearance, and gives your rig that aggressive stance. But with so many options out there, choosing the right lift kit can feel overwhelming. Here's a straightforward guide to help you make the right call.
How Much Lift Do You Need?
The amount of lift you need depends on the tire size you want to run:
- 1"-2" lift — Fits up to 33" tires with minimal modifications. Great for daily drivers who want a mild upgrade.
- 2"-2.5" lift — The sweet spot for most JL owners. Fits 35" tires comfortably with the right wheels and offset.
- 3"-4.5" lift — Needed for 37" tires. Requires more components and potentially a front track bar relocation.
- 4.5"+ lift — For serious rock crawlers running 37"+ tires. Full suspension overhaul territory.
Types of Lift Kits
Spacer / Leveling Kits (1"-2")
The most affordable option. Spacers sit on top of the factory struts to add height. Simple to install, but they don't improve suspension performance — just height.
Coil Spring Kits (2"-3.5")
Replace the factory coil springs with taller units. Better ride quality than spacers and more articulation for off-road use. Often paired with new shocks for best results.
Long Travel / Full Suspension Kits (3.5"+)
Complete suspension overhauls with new control arms, track bars, shocks, and springs. Maximum performance and articulation but higher cost and more complex installation.
Shocks Matter
Don't overlook your shocks. Upgrading to quality shocks like Fox, Bilstein, or Falcon makes a huge difference in ride quality and off-road performance. We carry the Falcon SP2 3.3 Fast Adjust Piggyback Shock Kit (2"-4.5" lift) — one of the best options for JL owners who want adjustable performance.
